Camping Season Is Here... Is Your Central Indiana Campsite Ready?

It’s happening. The weather is finally cooperating, the campgrounds are opening back up, and that familiar itch to get outside is officially back. Camping season in Central Indiana is here, and if you’re like us, you’ve probably been counting down since October.
But before you throw everything in the truck and hit the road, let’s make sure your campsite is actually ready. A little prep goes a long way between a great trip and a frustrating one. We’ve done the frustrating version. Here’s how to avoid it.
Step 1: Check Your Gear Now, Not the Night Before
Nothing kills the vibe faster than showing up to your site and realizing your tent has a busted pole, your camp stove is out of fuel, or your sleeping bag smells like it spent the winter in a swamp. (It did. We’ve all been there.)
Do a full gear audit at least a week before your trip. Set up the tent in the backyard. Fire up the stove. Check the batteries in your lantern. Fix the small stuff while you’re still close to a store.
Step 2: Book Your Campsite Early
Popular campgrounds near Indianapolis fill up fast especially on Memorial Day weekend and the first few weekends of June. If you haven’t already locked in your site, do it today. Some of the best spots book out weeks in advance.
Pro tip: If your first choice is full, check cancellation availability a few days before the weekend. People cancel, and those sites go fast.
Step 3: Plan Your Campsite Layout
This sounds like overkill, but trust us, five minutes of planning means you’re not rearranging the entire camp setup after dark on night one. Think about where the tent goes (away from the fire ring), where chairs face (toward the fire, toward the view), and where you want the cooler (shaded, accessible, but not a tripping hazard).
And if you’re renting a golf cart this season, think about where you can park the cart. Our carts are compact but you’ll want it somewhere easy to reach for all the gear runs you’ll be making.
Step 4: Stock the Cooler Smarter
The classic mistake: ice on the bottom, food on top. The better move: freeze a layer of water bottles to go on the bottom, keep drinks in a separate cooler so you’re not digging through ice all weekend, and pack your food in the order you’ll need it. Last day meals at the bottom, first night dinner on top.
Also, pre-make your s’more kits. Put the graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows together in a bag before you leave home. It’s a small thing that makes the first night feel really easy.
Step 5: Add a Golf Cart to Your Campsite Lineup
Here’s the upgrade we’d argue is the single biggest quality-of-life improvement you can make to a camping trip: a golf cart rental.
Suddenly every gear run, every bathroom trip, every evening cruise around the campground becomes part of the fun instead of part of the work. It’s the camping season upgrade you didn’t know you needed until you try it once. Pro tip: Rent from us, Camp Cart Rentals!
